Cushion drive

I have an e drive 20 the HD branded bike. my kid appears to have worn out the small plastic cushions in the drive hub, they must have gotten thin and moved out of position then created a lot of drag inside the hub. I see there is an upgraded 2.0 hub that looks like it has 4 lugs not 2 but to swap to that do i need to buy the 90 degree drive with the new parts pressed on the sprocket shaft/pinion? It looks like id have to separate a bunch of stuff on the original 2 lug for it to accept the 2.0.
